Initial preliminary task

Front cover:
For my front cover, I wanted to stick to the basics of photoshop as I had never used it before. I wanted to make one person the main focus of my magazine, so I thought I would put Megan as the main focus would be about her modelling. To carry on focusing on Megan, I wanted to put a large text at the bottom stating what it is about so it doesn't cause confusion. As the magazine is about Haydon, I used some of Haydon's school colours such as blue and white. I planned to make all the titles blue with a white 'stroke' effect to it which gives boldness to the outline of the text. I wanted to do this so that I could emphasis that this is what I wanted the main focus to be on. I plan to use green to break up all the other colours used. I want to use 3 colours because otherwise it will look more unprofessional and not appealing to read if it were a real one. The sellines are all relevant to Haydon and what is going on within the school.
Contents:
My initial ideas for the contents page were to have mainly pictures and only a little amount of space for text. I planned to have a larger picture at the bottom as a simple yet meaningful image. The three others that I planned to put were off prom king and queen, year 8s pop project and just an overall image of the school. This is again relevant to the school and gives the reader an idea of what they will be reading about before they even go to the page. I chose for the text to all be in green because it goes with the front cover and also links with the picture we see at the bottom of the page. I wanted it to all flow so it looked better when I presented it on my blog.

Contents page - preliminary task

This is my contents page that I made to go with my magazine 'Haydons Talk'. To start off I put the masthead at the top of the page. I put it at the top right hand corner because the rest of the text is placed on the right hand side. This way it shows the seperation of the two texts to show what is meant to catch your attention first. I made the text green because it matched the colour of the grass, and helped form a house colour. Only using one colour was my choice because I didnt want to make it look tacky and unprofessional. I made the contents page simple because then it is easy to follow. All my pages are relevant to Haydon recently including different year groups so it is good for everyone to read.

In addition to this, I added this image to my contents page as I wanted to capture all aspects of the field. I wanted to do this because it shows how big the school is and how the image could be a metaphor for the amount of news that goes on within the school.

Using the same colour and size font for the numbers and text because the page hasnt got to much on it, which means the reader is instantly looks to the text because nothing is over the top. Having this font was because I didnt want to over-do the look of going to a more professional look. I wanted to keep it simple so it is easy to read and doesnt cause confusion. I left a good amount of spacing between each of the lines so that it is clear to the reader.

Front cover - preliminary task

This is the front cover that I designed for my 'Talk of Haydon'. I made the background image of Megan because I made her the main topic of my magazine. I made this my image choice because it is a main bleed image. Megan takes up the whole background which emphasises how the topic of the modelling competition is important within the magazine. The image of Megan also portrays the look of a casting picture which is used in modelling. It was taken within the school which highlights the fact she has won it for Haydon School.

The colours i have used set a house style. It is eyecatching but at the same time, not over the top. I used subtle colours such as Blue, white and green. Using blue and white highlights the Haydon colours which again reminds us it is all about the school she's from. I gave some of the text the 'stroke' effect which boldens the text and indicates the importance of it. Not only this, it draws your attention to it straight away and again, it highlights the way it is the main topic. The masthead has also got the 'stroke' effect, but has a thicker outline as that is what you want to notice first when you look at the magazine. The subtitle of 'our weekly news' shows the news is offered to the school every week. I chose the colour of light blue because it doesnt destract the attention away from the masthead. It is still visable, but isnt to bright to catch your attention.

The cell lines have been structured so that they are at different levels which makes the magazine more interesting to look at. Looking at the cell lines, the colours have been arranged so they go in an order of colour. Some have been made in bold. This helps it look more sophisticated. I chose where i put the text carefully because the colours of Megans shirt effected my choice of colours. I couldnt put white on her forearm because the white text was then hard to see.
