Project Log - 28th October

Today I plan to work out what I am going to do over half term. My deadline is to have done the audience by the time I go back to school. I have done a few extra things on my blog so I want to keep up to date on what I need to focus on. I plan to start my slides today and carry on throughout the rest of half term. I am going to spread it out equally throughout the week so it isn't an overwhelming amount of work.

Name Designs

Name Designs
The way that I had styled my masthead was important from the start. This piece of work can help me chose which one I would want to feature in my magazine. As the masthead is clearly visible on the front of the front cover, I would need to chose a font for my masthead that makes the page stand out from the rest. To increase my chances of this happening, I had to try several different fonts to see which one I preferred, which could then influence my decision on which font I should have for my actual masthead for my magazine.

Location Ideas

Location Ideas
Some of the different locations that I originally thought of for my magazine weren't as practical as I would of hoped. I had to plan out where I believed would be a good place to ensure I could get the images which I had pictured to be featured in my magazine. It is important for me to get the right location as it could determine the success of my images, which could then make or break by magazine. This presentation helped me and showed my planning of the photoshoot. It proved to be time consuming and a struggle to find somewhere appropriate for the genre I was aiming for my magazine to be.

Project Log - 25th October

Today I have started my images ideas even though I am not in school. I want to keep up my progress in my work so that I can stay motivated to work. I am not sure that I am doing the work right but tomorrow I will go to see my media teacher and find out if I am doing it right or not. After my images ideas, I am going to show pictures of what equipment I have used for my photo shoot and maybe do the location ideas.

Project log - 24th October

In today's lesson I wasn't sure on what I was meant to be doing because we only had a single and we was going through what we have got left to do with our teacher individually. As I was near to the end I was trying to plan out what I can work on at home and I gave myself a deadline for when I want to have the 'image ideas' done by. Because I am not in tomorrow because of an interview I have which is during the time I have media, I am planning on emailing my teachers to find out what I missed and what I need to work on.

Project Log - 23rd October

Today I have spent my lunch break in media uploading my double page spread codes and conventions work. I have now got to find out what work I have to do this week as I am not in on Thursday and want to keep myself motivated to be completing the work.

Double page spread Codes and Conventions

Double Page Spread Codes and Conventions
This piece of work proved to be an idea of what I was needing to include in my magazine. As I was told to analyse the different double page spreads, it became more aware to me what exactly had to be included, and how I needed to start to plan it. Throughout the planning stages of creating our magazines, I realised the importance of referencing back to this presentation to remind me of what is included in professional magazines, and how I can use the high standard and analysis I carried out, to help to improve my own work.

Monday 22 October 2012

Project Log - 22nd October

Today I have planned out how I think I want my magazine to look. I tried to imagine the images I will use which I have taken from my photoshoot. I tried to work out the layout and the structure which I want to have in my magazine. Tomorrow I am going to upload the pictures of what I have planned out, also some of the images I plan to use.

Contents page codes and conventions

Contents Cover Codes and Conventions
This was a way for me to look back on the work that I had done in the planning stages of our magazines. I needed to make sure that I was looking at what was crucial to have in my magazine and what makes a magazine as successful as they are. It also proved to me that the standards of the magazines are high, therefore, I need to match it, and I could do this by carrying out the same analysis for my own magazine. This would be time consuming but I feel like it should be done to ensure I am including all the right aspects that is needed to create a high standard and professional looking magazine.

Project Log - 18th October

In todays lesson I did my existing mastheads, my existing names, institutions and my colour connotations. I have now finished all of my 'research' part on my tick list so now I am going to continue with the 'planning' part of it.
I have chosen my name for my magazine, I chose 'Generation' because my magazine is focusing on what music teenagers/young adults, aged 14-20 listen to and how it is influcening them.

Colour connotations

Colour Connotations
Colour connotations are a good way for me to decide on what colours I would want to include in my own magazine. The different colours have different connotations, meaning that different moods can be highlighted through the uses of different colours. I needed to chose my colours carefully because I didn't want to make a mistake and mislead readers with the genre. This presentation was helpful throughout the planning stages of my magazine because if I changed my mind on colour and was unsure, I could look back and see what my own personal opinion was on each colour, and what I think they represent.

Existing Mastheads

Existing Mastheads
The existing mastheads presentation just groups all of the different magazines I could think of which are at a popular interest and a high demand. These are just a few that I collected to show how their logo is set out and how powerful it is when the reader sees it.

Existing Names

Existing Names
Both of existing names and institution have been included within this table. It is an easier way for me to set it out, where I can see how the different institutions have impacted on how the magazines are run. Also, it gives me a good idea of which institutions distribute certain magazines for the reason that it depends on context.

Project Log - 17th October

I have just finished all of my homework and have uploaded it just before 10pm. Tomorrow I hope to move on to something new as I have completed everything I needed to by my deadline:

  1. sellines
  2. props and costumes
  3. representation
  4. codes and conventions
I also did extra - I did my masthead ideas for my magazine. I think I want to go with 'Generation' as it is recent music and my target audience is teenagers.

Representation of artists

Representation
This piece of work was interesting for me to do because it made me think differently about the images than I normally would. Through all of the analysis that I have carried out when looking at the images and writing about it in detail, I realised that it is important that the artist is perceived in the way that you would want them to be. It is important to give off the right message when choosing your model and your images in general. When I was choosing my images I looked back to this presentation to see what I had said as a reader of the magazine.

Props and Clothes

Clothes and Props
This mood board of the props and clothes that I have created are just a few images of what I want to be portrayed through my magazine. I want it to have an element of fun, and wildness to it. Therefore, the clothes and accessories included within this mood board are the colours and style that I would want my model to wear for my magazine. It is important for me to think of how I want my model to look in images, so that I can ensure I take the pictures right the first time round, allowing myself to move and work quicker. It needs to give off a certain vibe, and needs to suit the genre of my magazine.

Selline ideas

Sell Ines
The sell lines that I had come up with were all an initial thought. I wanted to make sure they sounded exciting, and wouldn't match the context of my article that I had already written. Even though I might not of used all of these sell lines, it gave me a good idea of what I needed to put on my front cover, allowing me to work out what sort of information and teasers need to be on my front cover to attract the reader.

Masthead Ideas

Masthead Ideas
These were just a few of my ideas of what to call my magazine. I wasn't sure on what to call it as everything I came up with was predictable for a magazine. I wanted to go with something different, my favorite was 'generation'. I wanted to capture the generation of music which was of my target market. It is all about them, therefore, I thought my masthead had to be relevant to the overall context of my magazine. This was the name that I ended up going with for my magazine.

Project log - 17th October

Today I had some problems with my contents pages codes and conventions presentations. I had to spend the lesson re-typing what I did at home because it failed to save. This wasted a lot of my time but I had pictures of what I had written so I could just copy it up. I am now carrying on with what I hadn't done on the contents page ones, then I am going to move onto the double page spread ones. My deadline for these is tomorrow so I have to work quicker and cut down on the detail which I am doing at the moment.

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Project log - 16th October

Today I didn't have a media lesson but I am currently carrying on with my codes and conventions as I couldn't finish it all when I would of wanted too. I found it harder for the contents page than the front covers because there is a lot more you need to focus on and think about it in depth.

Front cover - Codes and Conventions

Front Cover Codes and Conventions
This was part of the research part of developing and planning into what we wanted our magazine to be line. I looked into the codes and conventions of magazines of the same genre as mine, to see what was needed and what I could take from it as knowledge which could be applied for my own work.I found this really helpful as I then understood what was important for me to include within the development of my front cover of my magazine. It also gave me new ideas on what can be done and what I could look into doing within my own magazine. Taking ideas from these magazines will help to make my own magazine a higher standard and look more professional.

Project log - 13th October

Today I am going to try and finish my codes and conventions presentation and hopefully make a start on the representation of artists. I think this will be good for me to do today because then it gives me more time to do the rest of my media homework, as this will take me longer.

Thursday 11 October 2012

Project log - 11th October

Today I carried on with my codes and conventions PowerPoint. I started to work on my 'cover model' slide an started to really get into the analysis of it. I finished this and now I am starting to do the sellines page. I didn't understand the barcode page because I need to get someone to explain to me the meaning of what the barcode symbolises in depth. My homework is to finish all of the codes and conventions as well as my representation of artists. I'm planning on doing this at home and during my free lessons during school.

Wednesday 10 October 2012

Project log - 10th October

In todays we finished off watching the rest of the groups presentations on analysis of front covers, contents pages and double page spread. After this we was told to carry on/start our double page analysis but as I had done this at school I started to do my 'codes and conventions' powerpoint. I got up to the first slide which was anaylsis on the masthead of an example of MOJO magazines that I included. After watching the other presentations, and after miss had told us what we need to make sure we include in our analysis, I made sure that I writing in alot of detail and that I was writing about every detail that I could pick out of the masthead alone. I will continue this in tomorrow's lesson and do some more at home.

Group magazine analysis

This was a presentation that we did to our class when we first started to learn about the codes and conventions. In my group was Monique and Emma. We analysed the double page spread, contents page and front cover of some magazines. It made us aware of what we will have to include in our own magazine, making sure that we are looking into detail of what we are including. It was a good lesson for us to have as it also showed the depth you should go into when making your magazine and how much meaning everything has when you think about it properly.

Mood board for R'n'B genre

Mood Board
My mood board was showing some initial thoughts that I had when I thought of my chosen genre. It showed a range of clothing and artists which are popular to my target audience which I will be aiming and focusing my magazine on.

Double page spread analysis

Double Page Spread
This was my research into double page spreads. I did this in detail because I knew that when it came to making my own magazine, I could look back on what I had written here, and what I think is important for each part of the page. I wrote a lot in this particular analysis because it was clear to me what parts were powerful and had meaning behind it. I did this for homework and it was part of my researching part of developing my knowledge of codes and conventions. As I was new to the course, learning about codes and conventions was new to me, therefore, I thought the detail I went into in this task would benefit me in the future when I could reflect it within my own work.

Project Log - 8th October

I have just finished my double page spreads and now I am going to do my mood board. I think I want to focus on the genre of RnB as it is the music that I am most interested in and I listen to it the most, this will come to my advantage as I will know more about what to put into my magazine. Also it should give me some ideas on where to take my pictures, and what sort of styling I should use for them.

Sunday 7 October 2012

Project log - 7th October

I thought I would start to get ahead a bit on my deadlines and start on my double page spread analysis. I have done one so far on the one we did in class, this came to an advantage for me because I knew what I was writing about.

Friday 5 October 2012

Project Log - 5th October

Today I plant I go to media during 4th period and do my initial ideas for my contents and double page spread. Also I will do my mood board before because I think that will give my more inspiration.

Thursday 4 October 2012

Contents page analysis

Contents Page
The contents research that I have carried out is very similar to my double page spread and front cover analysis. It was allowing me to look in my detail to the different points which are included within a magazine to make it more successful. I also learnt that the codes and conventions can determine the standard that your work can be perceived to be by a reader or viewer. From looking at a range of different contents pages, it made me want to make my contents page at a really high standard, therefore, when I do start my magazine, I will adapt and incorporate my knowledge from this task within.

Project Log - 4th October

In today's lesson we analysed a front cover, contents page and a double page spread. We did this in groups of 3 and took up our double lesson. The picture I have attached is our work in progress on the double page spread. I really enjoyed this lesson. I learnt so much more than I thought I would be able to because before this I hadn't looked at a magazine cover/contents/double spread in so much detail. I thought it was really interesting to go into so much detail of what such small things can mean.it was probably one of my favourite lessons!

Front cover analysis

Annotation
My front cover analysis was in a lot less detail than my double page spread and contents pages were. It shows how much I have developed over a short period of time, in how I can learn about the different codes and conventions which are included within each magazine, and how it makes it successful. Even though this is in little detail, it states clearly what is important to include. You see this straight away when looking at my presentation. I can still look back on this when making my magazine as I can keep track of what I have included on my front cover which has been included on this one below.

Tuesday 2 October 2012

Project Log - 2nd October

Today I finished my magazine analysing front covers. I found it hard because I did the wrong thing at one point. I did a normal magazine instead so I had to go back and change it at the end. I wasn't sure what to write at some points when doing it so I went back to different parts  from different magazines to help me on what to write.

Monday 1 October 2012

Project log - 1st October

Today I haven't been blogging, but tomorrow I am planning on staying behind after school or maybe going in at lunch so I can carry on with my front covers which I need to analyse more. Therefore I can then move onto my contents page. I might do some more tonight and take screen shots of the stages I take to do it to show my progress in before and after.
